What does it mean for someone to be faithful? What does it mean for something to continue without fail? How do we enjoy God’s faithfulness? Is there something we need to do in order to enjoy God’s faithfulness?
Faithfulness is one of God’s attributes and it talks about the constancy of God in relation to His creation especially those who are His followers; those who have actually acknowledged Him as their Lord. It takes someone who knows that God can never fail that would put his or her trust in God. God is not like man! The Bible says that ““God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) When God makes a promise to man, He does everything to ensure that He fulfils it. God is worthy of our trust. He is not like man who will something today and tomorrow, for one reason or the other, he is wavering and changing his mind.
The Bible clearly states in 2 Timothy 2:13 that “if we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” Even when we are faithless and do things our own way, God remains faithful to us. He cannot fail us no matter what. We need to come to that place of conviction, knowledge and testify always that it is “through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) When we are in this place of conviction, like David, we can say, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
No matter what you are looking up to God for, remain steadfast and committed to Him because God can never fail you. You can put your trust in His word because He can never go back on His word. If He says He’s going to bless you; if He says He’s never going to leave you; He means every word. He doesn’t say one thing in the morning and changing His mind in the evening. Never! The ability to fail is not in God! His name is Faithful and He can be trusted with everything you have. You can take that to the bank. The only thing standing between you and what you are trusting the Lord for is YOU! How much are you able to trust God for that thing? This is what will determine how fast you are able to see those things manifest in your life. If you are able to hold on to God’s promises believing that He cannot and will not fail you, you will have those things you are believing Him for. When you hold on to that word the Lord has spoken to you, He will prove Himself in your life.
Most of the time, we allow doubt, fear, anxiety, things within and things without to affect our faith and trust in God. For us to see the faithfulness of God demonstrated in our lives, we need to stay focused. We need to know (and know and know) that God can be trusted. The Psalmist in Psalm 100:5 tells us that “…his faithfulness continues through all generations.” This means that God’s faithfulness does not end with you. It continues through all generations, forever! The Psalmist recognised that the faithfulness (mercy) of God is forever and that is why in Psalm 136, this was repeated over and over again so that it will resonate in our spirit man that God’s mercy or faithfulness endures forever. Glory to God!
So if you are struggling with grasping the faithfulness of God, you need to keep repeating it to yourself for it to register in your heart and for faith to rise up within you. The Bible says “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Romans 10:17. So it’s okay for you to speak it to yourself as many times as possible for you to believe that God is faithful and can be trusted. When you wake up, say it to yourself; as you go about your business, speak it out “God’s mercy endures forever and His faithfulness would never end.” As you do this, faith would rise up within you and the devil will flee from you. The things you are trusting God for are already there. He is not just going to manufacture or conjure them up. They are there for you and I. All we need is faith to receive and to hold fast to our confession “…for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).
We need to start walking as children of God and taking on what belongs to us. However, if you are not born again, it is important you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour so you may be a partaker of His promises. The Bible says in Romans 10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” When you have done this, commit to living your life for Him, know that He is constant and will never fail. Whatever you desire according to His will, just hold on to His promises “for all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20) You can hold on to His promises because the Lord watches over His word to fulfil it (Jeremiah 1:12).
